New Year, New Post Needed

So it’s been quite some time since I last posted. Life sure does get busy! This whole big kid life is just a little silly sometimes.  What happened to the days of mid morning naps, lunch still in your pj’s, afternoon nap, finally shower around 4 pm, starting thinking about dinner, eat dinner, and fall asleep on the couch around 7? Sounds just lovely.  But here are some pictures I’ve had from the past few months.  Nothing crazy… just life 🙂

RJ and I had the intention of hiking while we stayed at this lodge in Arkansas. But it snowed.

So we made snow angels. Can you guess who’s is which?

The lodge still had their Christmas decor up. It was wonderful! We highly recommend that place to anyone! And they they the best nativity scene I’ve ever seen.

Went to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra with Flat Stanley.  If you don’t know who that is.. shame on you! But go here for more info!

My passport came in! Watch out world!

Just the other day RJ and I went to see one of my favorite artists in concert, Matt Wertz! He is amazing live!

But that’s the past couple months of life in a nut shell! Happy end of January!

We’re Goin’ to the Chapel!

I’ve been wanting to write a post about this for a while now! But school got in the way! With Thanksgiving break upon us I decided to finally take the time to share what a wonderful day it was to get engaged to my partner in crime  RJ. Here’s the story…

Date: Saturday, October 26, 2013

A week before this RJ had asked me if I wanted to go to the Dallas Arboretum.  Not a big deal.  I have a membership there so we go occasionally to grab lunch and walk around.  PLUS it is probably my most favorite spot in Dallas.  If you haven’t been.. go! I will totally lend you my membership card.  Anyways…. him asking to go wasn’t weird. Him asking a full week in advance was weird. But at the time we were at the State Fair and I was too distracted by all of that to think too much about RJ asking.

Fast forward a week.  I worked that Saturday until noon.  Not out of the norm. However, the weather was supposed to be all rainy and gross that afternoon.  I was feeling disappointed about not going to the Arboretum.  But while I was at work RJ kept asking me my plans. Over. And over. And over. He kept saying we need to be there by this time because of the rain. Back story: he also told me it was his cousin’s birthday and that we were going to Bedford for a nice family dinner right after the Arboretum. (That was his sneaky way of making sure I wasn’t dressed like a scrub). After I get off work I head to his place.  He had already bought lunch and we ate that while watching some Fightin’ Texas Aggie football.

After that we head to the Arboretum.  It was cloudy but nothing to worry about. We walked around for a little bit and that is when I started to get annoyed.  I may as well have been walking with a rock because RJ wasn’t listening to a single word I said.  And for those of you that know me, you know how crazy that drives me.  At one point RJ goes to use the restroom and comes out with his shirt tucked in.  Not weird on the average day. But RJ doesn’t tuck his shirt in unless its a nice occasion.  And to just do it randomly at the Arboretum restroom.  My wheels started turning. The next few minutes of walking drove me nuts.  He kept pulling out his phone and I lost count of how many times he asked me where a certain part of the garden was. “Why does it matter??” I kept asking.  Finally my sassy pants came on and I said ” Why don’t you ask your phone where it is since you seem to always have it out?”. That’s funny to think about now.

We finally get to the part of the garden he had been asking about. It was also my favorite garden at the Arboretum.  We walked around to the other side of a pool and there is a bouquet of yellow tulips (when it comes to flowers I’m a picky one because of my background….but I was very impressed) and a card.  The card had my name on it.  By then I knew what was happening and ladies and gents I wanted to pee my pants. The card  had some very nice words on it (to be kept private). I honestly don’t remember what RJ said.  I don’t think he remembers what he said.  But next thing I knew there he was on one knee popping the question! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! To make the moment even better two of his close friends, Jennifer and Jenn, had been hiding and taking pictures! (That’s who RJ had been texting.) Earlier that morning while I was at work RJ and Jenn had gone to the Arboretum so scope out the spot of where everything would happen and where the two girls would hide. Sneaky sneaky.

There was a very nice lady who was at the Arboretum taking pictures and happen to snap a few for us and sent them to RJ! Super nice of her!! And you can see Jenn and Jennifer poking out from behind the bushes 🙂

That’s not where it ends yall!

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to go to Reunion Tower. For those of you that don’t know it is the giant ball in Dallas that you can see the whole city from.  I could care less about the restaurant inside it. I just wanted to go see the view. But for whatever reason it never worked out.  But after the Arboretum RJ drove us over there because he had bought tickets ahead of time to go up and finally explore it! He wanted that to be our first moment to share together after getting engaged.  If you haven’t realized it yet… he’s quite the catch 🙂  If you live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and haven’t been to Reunion Tower…GO! Super cool view and they have cameras set up to view all around. Super super cool.

After that we headed to Bedford.  Once we got to his aunt and uncle’s house it clicked in my brain that the surprises weren’t over.  It’s a quiet neighborhood so the fact that there were a bunch o cars park in front gave it up.  We walked in and there was the icing on the cake.  Not only had some of our closest friends taken the time to come out, but my family drove in from Austin and so did RJ’s from Kingsville.  It was spectacular!! RJ’s Bedford family did a kick butt job and organizing and decorating everything.  I don’t have enough pictures to do it justice.  Seriously it was wonderful! The food was amazing. The decorations were amazing. And the company was amazing.  I couldn’t not have asked for a more wonderful day.

This is our grandpas deep in conversation.

These are a cute little favor that RJ’s mom and aunts worked on. Amazingly cute right??

20131126-095023.jpg

We just want to thank all of those people who drove up that night to share the moment with RJ and I.  Whether you came from Houston, Abilene, Longview, Fort Worth, or simply from Dallas. Thank you. It really did mean a lot.

And so we are now in that planning stage and in a few months we are tyin’ the knot yall!!

State Fair!

The State Fair of Texas.  Where people go to spend lots of money on food that is good for the soul but bad for everything else.  Where carrying around an over sized baseball bat is considered okay. And where taking a picture with a giant cowboy (that has no butt) is exciting.

The weather was perfect and the smell of fried foods was in the air.  We went with a game plan and hit all the high points.

First stop: Fletcher’s Corny Dogs.  If you get any other corn dog at the fair. Shame on you.  These are where it’s at.

20131024-103423.jpg

Can’t you tell?

20131024-103432.jpg

Next: Waffle Balls. Seriously the best food at the fair. Hands down. Contest over.  It is a strawberry dipped in chocolate, covered in batter, fried, and then topped with powdered sugar.

20131024-103443.jpg

Last food stop was to the fair winning Cuban Roll.  Not bad.  Basically an egg-roll (which in not a Cuban food) filled with pork.  It was a lot of pork that was stuffed inside so you won’t be let down.

20131024-103508.jpg

And what would the State Fair be with out the Texas Star! My favorite part.  Great view of Dallas.

20131024-103524.jpg

And on the wayy out we stopped by the petting zoo.  That whole area really grosses me out.  After spending a few years in FFA I know what’s really going on behind the scenes. But we did see a celebrity: the Hump Day camel.

20131024-103535.jpg

This fair visit was just another reminder of how wonderful fried foods and people watching is 🙂

And I bet this guy is going to make some of the best bacon EVER one day.
